Eastman Chemical Expanded Its Non-phthalate Plasticizer Portfolio

US-based specialty chemicals provider Eastman Chemical has expanded its non-phthalate plasticizer portfolio with the launch of new Eastman Versafix plasticizer.

Eastman Versafix is claimed to provide required viscosity control and maximized low-temperature efficacy as well as elasticity to water-based adhesives.

Eastman Specialty Plasticizers business manager Carlos Alvarado said rising production costs are creating challenges for adhesive formulators and manufacturers as they try to keep costs under control without sacrificing product performance.

"Versafix is a non-phthalate solution, that can help maximize performance, including improved open and set times, meeting FDA food contact clearances, while also providing optimal value," Alvarado added.

Versafix uses strengths of benzoate esters and does not require changes to the formulation process.

According to the company, the new product simplifies processing and decreases formulation costs when used in water-based adhesives.

The plasticizer can be used for market applications including paper and cardboard tube winding, woodworking and cabinetry, consumer craft and wood glue, box and carton assembly, bag manufacturing, envelopes and labels, as well as laminates.
