First Vehicle Assembly Plant Will Be Builded in Africa to Boost Exports by Maruti Suzuki

Indian automobile manufacturer Maruti Suzuki is considering building its first vehicle assembly plant in Africa to boost exports.

Maruti Suzuki India chairman R.C. Bhargava told Bloomberg that firm is in search of new markets and Africa is more or less untouched.

"We will look at local assembly for two reasons," Bhargava said.

"Firstly, there's usually a tax advantage. And second, there's pressure from governments in these countries to assemble models locally."

Maruti is also aiming to double its exports in the coming four years as Europe struggles to recover from a slowdown and is looking for markets.

According to the news agency, a local manufacturing facility will assist the auto maker reduce costs for buyers, while boosting sales in emerging markets for basic models.

Europe, which accounted for 70% of Maruti's exports three years before, now contributes to 30% due to the slump in demand over debt crisis in the region.
