The 150,000ft2 facility, which will be located at Craigforth, will feature production lines for milk, cream, cheese and butter as well as a research centre for developing new products.

Graham's The Family Dairy managing director Robert Graham said: "It is a hugely exciting time to run a business in Scotland. There is so much potential in the dairy industry.

"Far more can be done in Scotland to produce and market premium Scottish dairy products and as we have seen through our brands, there is huge potential to add value to milk through products such as cheese, cream, yoghurt and, in particular, butter.

"Investing in Stirling runs through my family's history and our business. That is why we want to build the new dairy processing, research and training centre here, in Stirling.

"Stirling is our home. It is where we farm, live and, from our dairy at Airthrey Kerse, employ more than 500 people throughout Scotland.

The Graham family have been farming in Stirlingshire for five generations.

The firm, which reported a turnover of 85m in 2014, currently operates a dairy at Airthrey Kerse in Bridge of Allan, a processing plant in Nairn and depots across Scotland. The new plant could produce 350 million litres of milk every year. The company is already churning out more than 700,000 pints a day.

A planning application for the new dairy facility will be filed with Stirling Council in June 2015, following which a public consultation will be held.
