apanese carmaker Nissan has unveiled the new Terra, a fuel-cell electric sport utility vehicle (SUV) concept, ahead of its debut at the upcoming 2012 Paris Motor Show to be held in France this month.
According to the carmaker, the front wheels of the fuel cell vehicle concept will be powered by an electric propulsion system, which is currently powering LEAF EV, while the rear wheels will be powered by their own in-wheel electric motor.
Power for the batteries of the new all-wheel-drive (AWD) SUV concept will be provided by the carmaker's new proprietary hydrogen fuel cell stack which features a power density of 2.5kW/L.
Nissan revealed that an electronic tablet is featured in the concept, which operates as an 'intelligent key'.
The driver, when docks the tablet while his entry into the SUV, will be provided with a default view which displays speed and other major performance indicators and it will be discarded when leaving the SUV.
Nissan is planning to begin the mass production of fuel cell electric vehicles following the wide availability of hydrogen.
