Inspection System of FT for Beverage Container

The North American branch of FT System, an Italy-based manufacturer and supplier of container inspection and monitoring solutions, is to launch its new pressure and leak inspection system - the PCS700-LS - to measure total pressure and leak detection in containers filled with carbonated beverages.

The PCS700-LS Pressure Inspection System works on both the transparent and semi-transparent glass and plastic containers. It can detect pressures and leaks in beverages containers filled with carbonated soft drinks, beer and sparkling wines.

The system uses a patented tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy (TDLAS) technique to inspect the pressure by measuring the gas in the space between the liquid and the seal of the container. This data is then converted into a pressure value. If the value is less than the user set limits, the container gets rejected.

This inspection is non-contact, non-destructive and can inspect up to 1,200 containers per minute. The system is also suitable for glass containers with aluminum or steel closures such as beer and sparkling wines.

FT System general director Fabio Forestelli said the PCS700-LS system was developed to allow beverage producers a more sanitary and dependable method of leak testing carbonated beverages on-line at full production speed.

"The PCS700 uses a non-contact, non-destructive pressure inspection and leak detection technique that eliminates the requirement to use consumable squeeze belts or acoustic sensors to measure the pressure inside a glass or plastic beverage container," Forestelli added.

The PCS700-LS will be launched in North America at the Pack Expo show in Chicago in November 2012.
