Japanese carmaker Mazda Motor is planning to double the production of SKYACTIV-D diesel and SKYACTIV-G gasoline engines at its Hiroshima engine plant.
The company will increase the engine production from 400,000 units to 800,000 units per year by October 2012 to meet the increasing demand for cars with its SKYACTIV technology.
The SKYACTIV-G is a new-generation direct-injection gasoline engine, which currently powers Mazda Demio for the Japanese market, Mazda Axela for the North American and Australian market and the currently being launched Mazda CX-5 models.
Mazda said that the SKYACTIV-G will also power Atenza also called Mazda6, which will be launched in late 2012.
The SKYACTIV-D is a clean diesel engine which meets the global exhaust gas regulations without the requirement of nitrogen oxide (NOx) after treatment system.
According to the carmaker, the SKYACTIV-D engine will power Mazda CX-5 for the Japanese, European and Australian markets, in addition to Atenza/Mazda6.
By fiscal year ending March 2016, Mazda aims to sell 1,700,000 units using SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY which will account for 80% of total vehicle sales.
