IC Design Houses Lands an Influx of Short Lead-Time Orders From The Gaming Console Sector

Taiwan-based IC design houses have landed an influx of short lead-time orders from the gaming console sector as well as China's LED lighting industry, according to industry sources.

Among IC vendors, Champion Microelectronic, On-Bright Electronics and Silergy are expected to enjoy brisk sales in the first quarter of 2014 despite seasonality, the sources indicated.

Champion, which has entered the supply chain for the new Xbox One, may see its revenues and earnings both grow by a double-digit rate in 2014, estimated the sources.

Champion's share prices surged 7% to a record high of NT$79.7 (US$2.65) on the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TSE) on December 26, reflecting company's business prospects for the coming year, commented the sources.

On-Bright and Silergy have ramped up their sales generated from LED driver ICs to NT$40 million a month in the second half of 2013 compared to NT$10-20 million in the first half of the year, thanks to booming LED lighting industry in China.

The pull-in orders from China's LED lighting industry will keep sales of On-Bright and Silergy stay high in the fourth quarter of 2013 as well as in the first quarter of 2014, stated the sources.
