Global Crude Steel Production in November This Year Slightly Increased by 0.1 Percent Year

Global crude steel production in November this year slightly increased by 0.1 percent year on year, amounting to 130.5 million metric tons, while a 4.5 percent decrease was observed on month-on-month basis, according to the World Steel Association (worldsteel). In the given month, the average capacity utilization of steel mills across the globe was 73.5 percent, 2.5 percentage points lower compared to November 2013 and 1.2 percentage points lower compared to October of the current year.

In the meantime, total global crude steel production in the first 11 months of this year rose 1.8 percent compared to the same period of 2013, amounting to 1.5 billion metric tons.

In November, crude steel output in Asia amounted to 87.2 million mt, up 0.6 percent, with 63.3 million mt produced by China, down 0.2 percent, 9.17 million mt produced by Japan, down 1.1 percent, 6.9 million mt produced by India, up 4.8 percent, and 5.9 million mt produced by South Korea, up 5.5 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis.

EU-28 countries produced 14.25 million mt of crude steel in November, down by 0.8 percent compared with November 2013. In November this year, Germany's output was 3.6 million mt, down 1.9 percent year on year, Italy's crude steel output was 1.85 million mt, down 13.9 percent year on year, and France's crude steel output amounted to 1.4 million mt, up 5.8 percent year on year.

Turkey produced 2.8 million metric tons of crude steel in November this year, with an 8.6 percent decrease from the same month in 2013.

Iran's crude steel production in November this year amounted to 1.5 million mt, up 6.1 percent compared to November 2013.

The CIS registered a crude steel output of 8.3 million mt in November this year, down 3.9 percent year on year, with Russia producing 5.84 million mt, increasing 5.8 percent, and Ukraine producing 1.82 million mt, down 28.6 percent, both on year-on-year basis.

In North America in November, crude steel output totaled 9.9 million mt, up 2.4 percent year on year, with the US producing 7.2 million mt and Mexico producing 1.57 million mt, up 1.5 percent and increasing by 8.8 percent, respectively, on year-on-year basis.

Meanwhile, crude steel output in South America in November amounted to 3.75 million mt, up 2.7 percent from November 2013, with Brazil's output totaling 2.77 million mt, up 2.4 percent year on year.
