Petrochemical firm Braskem has renewed a long-term agreement with Sojitz Pla-Net to supply green plastic.
Under the deal, Braskem will continue to supply I'm greenT Polyethylene (green plastic), which is a polymer made from renewable feedstock.
The deal will allow Sojitz Pla-Net to market a range of products in Japan and the Asia-Pacific region.
The renewal of the deal will increase the availability of renewable products in the region, enabling to serve around 100 clients and diverse markets such as convenience stores, logistics and household products.
I'm greenTM Polyethylene is developed by using ethylene derived from sugarcane. This green plastic will allow to reduce greenhouse gases emissions by capturing carbon dioxide during the production process.
Braskem’s green plastics can be recycled and features similar properties of conventional polyethylene, helping to avoid adaptations to machinery.
The company’s green plastic facility holds capacity to produce up to 200kton per annum.

Braskem renewable chemical business director Gustavo Sergi said: "The renewal of this agreement reaffirms Braskem's purpose in its international expansion and market diversification process."
Braskem provides sustainable chemical and plastic solutions for clients in around 100 countries. It operates 41 industrial units in Brazil, the US, Germany and Mexico.
