LED Roadway Lighting Has Announced a LED Streetlighting Award in The City of Sudbury

LED Roadway Lighting has announced a LED streetlighting award in the City of Sudbury, Ont., to supply about 1700 fixtures between now and July 2013. Located approximately 440km north of Toronto, Sudbury holds a population of more than 180,000 residents. The award comes on the heels of the City of Greater Sudbury Council’s approval of a project to convert 1315 high pressure sodium (HPS) fixtures to LED, as part of the Greater Sudbury Hydro’s Street Light Conversion Incentive Program.

Greater Sudbury Hydro Plus Inc. (GSHPI), on behalf of the City of Greater Sudbury, conducted a tendering process which included commercial and technical evaluation components. The tender was awarded to Guillevin International, who will supply LED Roadway’s Satellite series LED street light fixtures.

Results of the sampling strategy will help dictate whether all existing HPS streetlights in the city will be converted to LED technology over the next 10 years. With more than 14,000 streetlights in the city, energy savings of 61% will be achieved (or about 154,458 kWh per year), it claimed.
