Lextar Electronics Expects Its Capacity Utilization Rate to Rise to 80-90% in Q3 2015

Lextar Electronics, which provides LED epitaxial wafers, chips and packaging services, expects its capacity utilization rate to rise from about 80% currently to 80-90% in the third quarter of 2015, according to company chairman David Su.

Lextar landed orders for LCD TV backlighting from several new clients in China, South Korea and Japan in 2014, with shipments increasing in 2015, Su said. In addition to in-car LED lighting, Lextar's LED automotive headlights are being certified and expects to ship for after-market sale in second-half 2015, Su indicated.

Lextar's shareholders meeting on May 28 approved the distribution of 2014 dividend per share of NT$1.0598 (US$0.0346) in cash and the addition of a member to the company's board of directors, with the additional director representing US-based Cree, which acquired an about 13% stake in Lextar in 2014. Cree has become a strategic client for Lextar through the stake investment, with the latter supplying mid-power LED chips and LED light bulbs for the former.

With shipments to Cree, Lextar expects the revenue proportion for LED lighting to rise from 30% in 2014 to 40% in 2015, Su said.
