THEM Gets US Nod to Offer Flexible Packaging for Alcohol

Technical Help in Engineering and Marketing (THEM) has obtained certification from the US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), for storing, packaging and distributing alcohol-based products.

The certification comes after an inspection at the company's facility in Marlton, New Jersey.

THEM is now eligible to offer complete single-serve packaging system for alcohol-based products, including both liquid and powder. This is applicable for spirits, wines, flavoring, mixes, powdered alcohol, fermenters, and a range of other emerging specialty products.

THEM CEO and president Neil Kozarsky said: "As a result of ATF approval, we now have the ability to provide the same single-serve packaging advantages to marketers of spirits and alcoholic beverages that many other consumer product categories have enjoyed for almost 20 years."

"Anticipating emerging opportunities for our customers, we have obtained the necessary certifications to manage expected demand in accordance with federal law, and in a safe, responsible manner."

The firm specializes in contract packaging services for single-serve consumer products by supplying flexible stick packs, pouches, and Snapsil easy-open portion packs.

THEM, which introduced flexible stick packaging in North America in 1996, aims to aid alcohol-based brands in exploring and introducing single-serve packaging options.

Its FDA-registered facility currently incorporates over 10 packaging suites for single-serve contract packaging. This includes single lane output for trial runs, multi-lane high speed production for larger runs up to 100 million units and above.

Recently, the company has introduced Snapsil Easy-Open Portion Packs from Australia-based Snapsil to North American consumer brands. The Snapsil semi-rigid container has an audible 'snap-opening' function allowing consumers to open package with one hand.
