Innovia Unveils New BOPP Film for Horizontal-Form-Fill Wrapping Applications

Innovia Films has unveiled its new Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene (BOPP) film, dubbed Propafilm REF, for several applications and markets like biscuits and bakery, confectionery, dried foods, tea and cosmetics.

The new film will address the demand for packaging films to perform on various machines, typically at high speeds. 

Innovia said the new coextruded material compliments its range of high speed materials. Besides, Propafilm REF is said to increase the options for the company's customers.

Designed with speed in mind, Innovia says that Propafilm REF brings itself with a wide sealing range in comparison to conventional coextruded films.

Innovia Films market development manager Amaia Cowan said: “Whilst speed is important to our customers, efficiencies are just as critical. Minimizing rejects and maximizing outputs remain an important objective for many of our clients.

“Propafilm REF can contribute to these targets. With its higher COF in the inner surface of the film, product movement within the pack can be reduced during the feeding stages, protecting seal damage and allowing good pack integrity to be maintained. Strong seals are achieved every time.”

Compared to basic films, scientists at usual laboratory conditions have been able to confirm over 30°C lower heat seal threshold for Propafilm REF, stated Innovia.

Apart from the wide seal range, the new BOPP film is also claimed to deliver an improved hot tack performance over standard films. This means that the seals even when subjected to a larger temperature range resist opening when pulled still hot.

The overall characteristics make Propafilm REF best suited in horizontal-form-fill wrapping applications, says its manufacturer.

Propafilm REF also provides better machinability according to Innovia while giving the necessary clarity for visual impact and moisture barrier for protecting the product.
