Huber Unveils New Recyclable Polyethylene Bags for Precipitated Amorphous Silica

Huber Engineered Materials, a unit of J.M. Huber, has introduced a new packaging concept for precipitated amorphous silica.

Implemented at precipitated amorphous silica production facility located at Havre de Grace, Maryland, US, the new multi-million dollar packaging system is designed to replacepaper bags with a conversion to more robust polyethylene bags

In addition to offering strong tensile strength, the new improved bag minimizes nuisance dust and provides enhanced moisture control to maintain the integrity of the material inside.

Huber silica business unit product management global director Jon Fecteau said: “Our investment in this area is in direct response to increasing customer and regulatory needs for stronger and more secure packaging.

“Not only do the polyethylene bags offer superior performance, they also provide increased printing and labeling options.  We are pleased to be able to provide this best in market option for many of our high quality silica products.”

The new easily recyclable polyethylene packaging can also eliminate trapped air within each bag for enhanced stacking, thus allowing for more stable pallets during shipment, unloading, and warehousing.

Huber plans to introduce the new packaging platform at selected production facilities located in Europe and America. It will also be introduced in Asia in 2017.
