Next Year's OnePlus 4 Could Make Headphone Fans Very, Very Happy

Next year’s OnePlus 4 smartphone looks likely to retain the headphone jack, judging by a tweet sent out by co-founder Carl Pei.

Pei posted on Tuesday evening, asking followers to vote on whether they like headphone jacks.

So far there has been predictably one-sided feedback with 86 per cent of the 1,500 voters responding in the affirmative.

Given the OnePlus 4 is expected next summer, Pei could be canvassing opinion from users or offering a coy hint at the next phone’s hardware make up.

We’d say it’s extremely unlikely he’d ask this question of a very vocal and influential fanbase - likely knowing the answer - only to then rip the physical connection from the phone anyway.

Pei is likely to be swimming against a tide of manufacturers who’re sacrificing the century-old hardware component.

Apple’s iPhone 7 is, of course, the most famous device to force customers into alternate arrangements, while Motorola and HTC are also releasing handsets with one less orifice.

The OnePlus 4 is the expected follow up to the OnePlus 3 handset, which was released in June 2016.

We’re hoping for an improved display, better/more consistent battery life, fewer production issues and faster delivery. The same low, low price would be nice too.

Given Samsung’s current woes, there’s a huge opportunity for OnePlus to soak of some market share in 2017.
