Taiwan-Based Crystalline Solar Cell Makers Have Seen Increases in Orders

Taiwan-based crystalline silicon solar cell makers have seen increases in orders from China-based PV module makers as demand from the country grows.

Overall solar cell demand in China has been rising, driven by increased government subsidies to boost PV installations. Taiwan-based makers are also enjoying the demand boost, as their product pricing has fallen to levels similar to their China competitions, according to industry sources.

As PV system installations in China during first-half 2014 lag far behind the year's target, the China government has hiked subsidies in an attempt to reach total installation of 10GWp in the second half of the year, the sources said.

Most of the orders from China are in small volume and require quick delivery. They are mostly polysilicon cells with energy conversion rates of 17.7-17.8% at prices of US$0.33-0.34/W, the sources indicated.
