Londoners Will Soon Be Able to Order Their Lattés by The Roll of The Dice

With plans to open in Hackney this September, Draughts will boast over 500 popular gaming titles.

Londoners will soon be able to order their Lattés by the roll of the dice as the UK capital prepares to welcome its first board game café.

With plans to open in Hackney this September, Draughts is the brainchild and life-long dream of gaming fan, Toby Hamand.

Responding to the growth of popularity of the UK gaming scene, the new café aims to stock no less than 500 popular titles.

"When I first told people they reacted with amusement and disbelief,” Hamand told The Guardian. “A common response is: ‘My pub’s got board games – how are you going to be any different?’ But when they hear how many we’ll have they realize quite how different it’s going to be.”

Draughts will be the second board game café to open n the UK, following the launch of Oxford’s Thirsty Meeples last July. Thirsty Meeples currently stocks over 1,700 games.

Founder of Thirsty Meeples, John Morgan believes that the growing popularity of the board game scene has stemmed from a rebellion against the "internet and wireless culture” present in many cafes.

"I think it is inevitable that more [board game] cafes will open,” he said.
