NewPage Corporation Has Introduced a High Gloss Cast Coated Alternative Label Paper

US-based printing and specialty papers manufacturer NewPage Corporation has introduced a high gloss cast coated alternative label paper called Reflections designed for high-end wet glue and pressure sensitive applications.

NewPage Launches New Premium Label Paper

Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-compliant for direct and indirect food contact, the 60 lb (89 gsm) label paper can be used on products catering to the spirits, wine and pharmaceutical industries that require smooth printing and a mirror gloss appearance.

The new paper features a high gloss effect but does not use varnishes. It resembles cast coated grades with superior surface uniformity.

NewPage vice president of specialty papers Ed Buehler said: "Label printers and pressure sensitive laminators have long sought alternatives to traditional cast coated label papers, seeking new options that perform well and broaden their luxury label offerings.

"Our partners looked to NewPage for innovative alternatives, and we created Reflections for visually stunning and demanding premium labels."

Reflections also have third-party chain-of-custody certifications from the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC).

NewPage also manufactures a broader range of label papers apart from producing specialty papers used in flexible packaging, technical and release liner applications.

Headquartered in Ohio, the company owns paper mills in Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin which have a total annual production capacity of approximately 3.5 million tons of paper.
