National Electric Vehicle Sweden Has Opened a New Battery Manufacturing Plant in China

National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS), a manufacturer of the future Saab cars, has opened a new battery manufacturing plant called Beijing National Battery Technology in China.

National Modern Energy Holdings, parent company of NEVS, has started manufacturing of batteries for electric-drive buses and cars through its wholly owned subsidiary State Power Group in China.

State Power Group owns 75% stake in the new battery manufacturing plant, while the remaining 25% is owned by the company management.

Beijing National Battery Technology will utilise the Japanese LFP (lithium iron phosphate, LiFePO4) technology in manufacturing the batteries, which will deliver an energy density of 146 Wh/kg.

In addition, the battery production plant is expected to supply batteries to the future Saab electric vehicles, with an initial model debut in early 2014.

National Modern Energy Holdings owner Kai Johan Jiang said, "The battery plant is a result of the Chinese-Japanese collaboration, which also forms the engineering pillar for the future Saab electric vehicles."
