Stora Enso Has Introduced Lower-Weight Board for The Production of Pharmaceutical Cartons

Finnish pulp and paper manufacturer Stora Enso has introduced lower-weight board for the production of pharmaceutical cartons in high-speed packaging lines.

The new Tambrite board, which is 215gsm, is tested and qualified by the packaging manufacturer Edelmann and packaging line supplier Uhlmann.

The new cartons use less raw materials, less weight in storage and transportation thus generating savings and environmental benefits across the supply chain and product life cycle.

Stora Enso segment development manager Wilfried Schmahl said the companies focused on one target and jointly managed to optimize all factors to achieve the sustainable output.

"The project combines Stora Enso's material expertise with the converting and filling expertise of leading packaging solution suppliers serving pharmaceutical industry," Schmahl added.

The manufacturer has tested Tambrite board against board qualities of 250gsm basis weight, which is traditionally used in pharmaceutical cartons.

Edelmann has created cartons in three sizes, while the packaging test was conducted on a packaging line at Uhlmann that operated at a maximum speed of 300 boxes per minute.
