The Turkish Apparel Industry Exported Items of Clothing Worth US$ 10.56bn in Jan-July 2013

The Turkish apparel industry exported items of clothing worth US$ 10.56 billion during the January to July period of 2013, according to data released by Istanbul Textile and Apparel Exporters’ Union (ITKIB).
 
During the first seven months of this year, the exports from apparel firms amounted to US$ 10.56 billion, indicating an increase of 8.1 percent compared to the same period in 2012, reports Haberler.com quoting AA news agency.
 
According to the data, around 187 apparel firms from the country exported items of clothing worth US$ 2.20 billion to Germany, US$ 1.2 billion to the UK and US$ 824.7 million to Spain.
 
Of the total ten countries where Turkey exported garments, exports to Iraq saw the highest increase of more than 45.3 percent during the seven month period.
 
Region-wise, exports to the European Union (EU) were the highest as 74.2 percent of the total Turkish apparel exports were to the countries in EU.
 
Of the total apparel exports worth US$ 10.56 billion, items of clothing worth US$ 7.2 billion were exported from apparel industries of Istanbul, the data shows.
