South Louisiana Methanol LP (SLM) announced that it has received the required air permit from the LDEQ and the State of Louisiana to construct and operate the SLM methanol facility in St. James Parish, Louisiana.

“This represents a key milestone for the project”, said Barry Williamson, CEO of South Louisiana Methanol, “with the air permit now in place, SLM is on track to begin construction during the second half of 2014 and facility commissioning in early January 2017. This project is a major economic investment for Louisiana and will bring jobs benefiting the local economy. We are excited to be a partner in creating jobs and opportunity for the people of Louisiana.”

The facility will be located in St James Parish, Louisiana near the Mississippi River. Economic benefits resulting from SLM’s St. James Parish facility include the creation of 85 jobs on site at an average salary of $66,500 per year. Indirect jobs, tied to transport, parts production and other auxiliary services, are estimated at an additional 374 jobs by Louisiana Economic Development (LED). The plant will also create 650 construction jobs from 2014 through early 2017.

St. James Parish President Timmy Roussel said, “We applaud the State for approving the air permit for the SLM plant. This investment in our Parish will bring jobs and income for our communities, and generate revenue for local services.  It is a win-win for everyone involved.  We welcome the cleanest industrial facility to be built in St. James Parish.”

St. James Parish Chairman James “Jimmy” Brazan commented that, “The St James community is looking forward to working with SLM as they develop their facility and congratulate SLM on achieving this major milestone.”

Mr. Williamson added, “This milestone would not have been achieved without the leadership and hard work of many people. SLM would like to thank the LDEQ, Governor Jindal, the St. James Parish Council, the River Pilots Association, the Port of South Louisiana, and most of all, the citizens of St. James Parish.”

South Louisiana Methanol LP (SLM) is a gas-to-methanol project owned by the Todd Corporation and ZEEP Management US.
