Xiaomi's Rumoured Mi5 Flagship Handset to Be Landing on January 15

Xiaomi’s rumoured Mi5 flagship handset will be landing on January 15, if a new teaser poster is to be believed.

A Xiaomi-stamped poster has turned up on the firm’s official Weibo page, pointing toward the new date, as spotted by GizmoChina.

The president of Xiaomi, Lei Jun, is quoted as saying: “There’s no better way to start 2015 than with our newest products.”

The event will reportedly take place at 2pm local time over at the Beijing National Convention Centre in China.

Tickets for the event will go on sale from 12pm January 8 at a price of 99 Yuan (around £10) via Xiaomi's Mall App.

The poster also hints that the phone will be very thin; specifically thinner than the wings of a cicada, an insect found (and also eaten) in China.

While there’s no saying for sure that it will be the Mi5 that will be on show, Xiaomi did reveal last month that January would see the launch of a new flagship device.

What’s more, it’s also reckoned that this handset will be the first Xiaomi flagship to make it to the west.

Until now, Xiaomi has kept its wares in the east, but its growing presence in western media could make a move to the US or UK well timed.

Unfortunately it won’t go down a storm with some, namely Apple, who has previously publicly lambasted Xiaomi for copying its smartphone designs.

So what do we think the Xiaomi Mi5 will look like? For starters, we’re expecting thin bezels, a thin chassis, and a beefy 5.7-inch QHD display.

Also tipped to be on board is a 64-bit Snapdragon 810 chip, a 20.7-megapixel snapper, and a fingerprint sensor.
