China's National Liquor Moutai Reports Growth in First 11 Months

Revenue from the sale of China's national liquor, Maotai, has been on the rise through the first 11 months, despite the government's continued frugality campaign.

The Kweichow Moutai Group is reporting a 4-percent rise in revenues through the first 11-months, at around 35 billion yuan, or about 5.5 billion U.S. dollars.

Kweichow Moutai's overall profits are up close to 2-percent to around 19 billion yuan for the period.

A reduction of Moutai prices has helped offset the effect the frugality campaign, which has been targeting Communist Party officials since 2013.

The initial announcement of the campaign saw a sharp drop in Moutai sales, as Party officials were unwilling to purchase the Baijiu for fear of repercussions.
