Trade Resources Industry Views A New Pipeline Connecting Colonial Pipeline's System and Buckeye Pipe Line System

A New Pipeline Connecting Colonial Pipeline's System and Buckeye Pipe Line System

A new pipeline connecting Colonial Pipeline's system and Buckeye Pipe Line system at Paulsboro, New Jersey, that will begin pumping products this month will enable refined products from the US Gulf Coast to be piped to eastern Pennsylvania and upstate New York, Colonial said Friday.

At Paulsboro, the Colonial system was linked to the Buckeye system at PBF's 180,000 b/d Paulsboro refinery, where both the systems were already present. Products from the Colonial system will be transferred to Buckeye's Paulsboro pipeline and onto the Malvern and Macungie terminals in Pennsylvania.

From the Malvern and Macungie terminals, refined products will be shipped to eastern Pennsylvania, including Lancaster, Scranton and Harrisburg and to upstate New York, including Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse and Utica.

"Tying together critical infrastructure like this is a great way to extend the safe, reliable and cost-efficient supply of fuel to additional parts of our country," Colonial CEO Tim Felt said in a statement. "We appreciate Buckeye working diligently to make this happen."

Colonial is also planning to link up with the Western Terminal in Yorktown, Virginia, and the Eagle Point terminal near Philadelphia.

Gulf Coast products are shipped on Colonial's 825,000 b/d Line 3 that runs from Greensboro, North Carolina, to Linden, New Jersey.

At Greensboro, Colonial's 1.272 million b/d gasoline Line 1 and its 1.16 million b/d distillates Line 2, link up with Line 3. Both Lines 1 and 2 originate at Pasadena, Texas.
