According to media reports, a German-based firm named Khadi Natureprodukte GbR has registered Khadi as a trademark with the Spanish nodal agency OHIM (Office for Harmonisation in the Internal Market) in EU.

Apart from making efforts to de-register Khadi, the industry devoted statutory body has also begun the procedure of registering ’Khadi’ as a trademark in both national and international levels, said the minister of micro small and medium enterprises Giriraj Singh in Lok Sabha during the ongoing Budget session of the Parliament.

KVIC has filed an application to register Khadi as a word mark for Khadi fabrics and few other products related to village industries under the IPR Act.

Also International IPR application under Madrid Protocol has been filed for the US, EU, Russia and China, confirmed the minister.
