Trims are anything that is decorative materials used in apparel and it includes embroidery, lace, crochet, buttons, sequins, beads, etc.

In an interview with fibre2fashion, Sascha Hertli, chief executive of Switzerland-based luxury lingerie brand Rococo Dessous, said, “Without trims and embroidery, luxury lingerie is not possible. It is the art of embroidery that gives luxury lingerie its special look and feel.”

According to Laura Mehlinger, owner and designer of New York based luxury womenswear brand Lola Haze, trim is a key element both in providing structural support and lending shape, but also in aesthetics.

“The experience of wearing lingerie is an intimate one and it is the item closest to the skin so it must communicate its mood as well as design intention through all its design details,” she says.

“These include not only silhouette, but fabric, trim, color, surface, design, texture, the sense of contrast and juxtaposition. It can either compliment the fabric or provide and interesting counterpoint,” she adds.

At the recently concluded Lingerie Fashion Week, too, several designers used lace trims, pink bows, chiffon trims, etc in their collections. Laura Mehlinger presented her new collection with lace teddies, blue ribbons and shining chemises.
