Spanish Apparel Brand Mango Sales Grow 9.3% in 2014

In 2014, Spanish apparel brand Mango clocked revenues of €2.01 billion, up 9.3 per cent over 2013, with 82 per cent of sales coming from overseas markets and the rest from Spain.

Online turnover now accounts for 9.1 per cent of total sales and 12 new countries were added during 2014, bringing the total number of countries in which online sales are now available to 76.

In addition, in late 2014, a logistics centre came into operation in Germany to improve the service to e-commerce customers by reducing delivery times both in Germany and in neighbouring countries.

According to a Mango press release, in 2014, the brand created 2,331 jobs worldwide, representing an increase of 17 per cent over its previous year of which 28 per cent were created in the Spanish market.

Mango said it continues national and global expansion with the megastore concept created in 2013, with store size being between 800 sq. metres and 3,000 sq. metres, thereby offering all or most of the lines.

During 2014, 43 megastores were opened and in 2015 another 75 openings of this new store format are planned, including in Milan, which will be of 3,056 sq. metres.

Another store in Barcelona will be of 2,810 sq. metres and a 1,390 sq. metre outlet in Dublin, Ireland. Mango currently has more than 2,700 stores in 109 countries.

Mango added that it remains committed to a multi-channel strategy and so online expansion in 2015 will focus on South America, Asia and Africa, in order to complete the product offer via e-commerce.

Similarly, the company continues to invest in improving the online shopping experience and so, it has introduced a mobile app with augmented reality featuring scan & shop.

During 2014, Mango Man added 90 new retail outlets and closed the year with a total of 240 stores in over 40 countries. Zinédine Zidane has been signed up as the brand ambassador of the line for 2015.

Mango Kids closed its third season with 150 retail outlets in over 50 countries, with the line finding success in countries like Spain, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Russia and Turkey.

Violeta by Mango completed its first year with 90 retail outlets in over 15 markets, whose brand ambassador is Vicky Martín Berrocal.

The apparel brand further informed that the first phase of the new Mango Logistics Park in Lliçà d’Amunt will be completed in January 2016.

During the first phase, 160,000 sq. metres of the total of 330,000 sq. metres will be constructed and will allow the Group to implement its ambitious expansion plan.

In addition, construction work of Hangar2 is underway, which will allow the current Design Centre located at the company headquarters in Palau-solità i Plegamans to be enlarged by more than 24,000 sq. metres.

Mango will invest €300 million in 2015, which will be allocated to new store openings, store refurbishments, logistics systems and IT systems.
