UnitedHealthcare Has Added a New Accident Protection Plan

US health insurance provider UnitedHealthcare, a business unit of UnitedHealth, has added a new accident protection plan to its voluntary benefits insurance product portfolio intended for employers.

The new accident protection plan offers a cash benefit for covered incidents to help limit individuals' expenses of employees after an accident, and can help pay deductibles and co-payments, as well as cover lost income.

According to the service provider, employers who provide their workers its medical benefit plans can combine the accident protection plan with other ancillary products including critical illness, dental, vision and disability insurance.

Apart from integrated product offering, the firm's voluntary benefits are also available as standalone products.

UnitedHealthcare voluntary products vice president Gary Harger said, "Some people suffer injuries that don't require a disability leave, but they still incur major expenses and possibly lost income related to their care."

"Benefit payments from an accident insurance policy allow people to focus on healing instead of their bills."

The accident protection plan is currently available to businesses with 51 or more eligible employees in 33 states and the District of Columbia.

The states where services are being offered including Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, Montana, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Jersey, Nevada and New Mexico.

Other states, where the facility is available comprise Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Wisconsin, West Virginia, and Wyoming.
