Trade Resources Industry Views Production of Routan Minivan in 2013 Is Restarted by Volkswagen

Production of Routan Minivan in 2013 Is Restarted by Volkswagen

German carmaker Volkswagen has confirmed its plans to resume the production of Routan minivan in summer 2013 at Chrysler's Windsor assembly plant in Ontario, US, following the production halt since June 2012.

Volkswagen spokesman Scott Vazin told Automotive News that the firm plans to offer the 2013 model year Routan with no changes and that it will continue to be assembled in Windsor.

"There is no set schedule for production of the Routan to restart, but it's a safe bet to happen by summer," Vazin said.

The redesigned version of the Chrysler Town & Country was being built as part of collaboration agreement between Volkswagen and Chrysler, which will run until the development of Routan's 2014 model.

During 1 January 2012 to 15 December 2012, Chrysler has manufactured 8,882 Routans, representing a drop of 38% over same period of 2011, while Volkswagen has sold about 9,923 Routans in the US during the initial eleven month period, a 17% decline over same period in last year.
