Everlight Electronics & Lextar Electronics Hold Optimistic Outlooks on Business Operations

LED chip packaging house Everlight Electronics and LED epitaxial wafer and chip maker Lextar Electronics hold optimistic outlooks on their business operations in 2013, according to Everlight chairman Robert Yeh and Lextar chairman David Su.

With the China government's financial and policy support, many China-based LED makers began production in 2011-2012, causing significant oversupply, Yeh indicated. As the China government is expected to reduce support to China-based LED makers in 2013, and Taiwan-based makers have superior in technology, the latter will see improving operations in 2013, Yeh claimed.

Everlight recorded consolidated revenues of NT$19.068 billion (US$645 million), gross margin of 23.27%, net operating profit of NT$1.093 billion, net profit of NT$543 million and net EPS of NT$1.30 for 2012, and will distribute a cash dividend of NT$1.20.

LED penetration of backlight units will rise to 80-90%, and total LED-backlit area will increase 30% in 2013, Su indicated. With shipments for orders received to continue until the end of the second quarter, Lextar expects its operations to peak in the third quarter and LED lighting to account for 30% of 2013 revenues, Su said.

In related news, Taiwan-based LED packaging house Unity Opto Technology on March 26 reported consolidated revenues of NT$7.739 billion, net operating profit of NT$185 million, net profit of NT$82 million and net EPS of 0.25 for 2012, and will distribute a cash dividend of NT$0.20.
