Indian based automobile manufacture Mahindra & Mahindra is planning to launch its high-end sports utility vehicle (SUV) SsangYong Rexton on 17 October 2012 in Mumbai, India.
According to Mahindra, SsangYong Rexton is expected to be equipped with a new 2.0-litre four-cylinder common-rail diesel engine that delivers 152bhp and 367Nm of torque.
The upcoming SUV will be the first product from Korean car maker Ssangyong's portfolio to be launched in India, since Mahindra acquired Ssangyong in March 2011.
SsangYong Rexton will be built on the Mercedes Benz M-Class platform and will use an ultra-rigid frame and an intelligent torque vectoring system.
Mahidra said the third generation Rexton will be built at Mahindra's Chakan plant in India.
The company said the new car will also include safety features like electronic stability program (ESP) with with emergency brake assist, hill descent control (HDC) and active rollover protection (ARP).
Mahindra & Mahindra Automotive and Farm Equipment Sectors president and SsangYong Motor chairman Pawan Goenka, "With the launch of the SsangYong Rexton, we hope to further expand the Mahindra presence in the high-end SUV segment."
