Porsche 911 50 Years Edition to Debut at Frankfurt

The Porsche 911 50 Years Edition has been revealed ahead of its official debut at September’s Frankfurt motor show.

Commemorating the iconic German sports car’s launch in Frankfurt in 1963, the Porsche 911 50 Years Edition is based on the $243,100 rear-wheel-drive 991 911 Carrera S, with its rear-mounted 294kW/440Nm 3.8-litre flat-six engine and seven-speed manual transmission (Porsche’s paddle-shifted seven-speed dual-clutch PDK gearbox is also available).

Featuring the wider body of the all-wheel-drive Carrera 4 – 44mm broader across the rear wheel arches – the Porsche 911 50 Years Edition employs a sports exhaust system and 20-inch Fuchs-inspired wheels to claim a 0-100km/h sprint of 4.5 seconds (4.3 secs with PDK) and a top speed of 299km/h (298km/h with PDK).

Unique chrome highlights on the fins of the engine compartment grille, between the LED tail-lights, on the front air inlets, and around the windows, join a special ‘911 50’ badge on the rear lid and two exclusive colours – a darker Graphite Grey and a lighter Geyser Grey metallic. Black is also available.

The ‘911 50’ branding is repeated on the headrests, aluminium door sill plates and on the dashboard, along with the limited edition vehicle’s individual build number.

The interior receives other details that give a nod to the original 911 including green-cloured instruments with white needles and silver-capped pivot pins, and Pepita tartan-inspired centre panels on the 14-way adjustable leather sports seats.

Limited to 1963 cars worldwide, Porsche Australia says a ”limited number” will arrive locally just before the end of the year, priced from $270,100.

The Frankfurt motor show, where the original Porsche 911 model, the type 901, was first shown to the public in 1963, begins on September 12.
