Ford 1.0-Litre Ecoboost-Powered Racer Will Be Held in Australia

The Nurburgring-blitzing Ford 1.0-litre EcoBoost-powered open-wheel racer will be on hand in Australia at the local manufacturer’s Go Further event tomorrow.

Recording the 11th-fastest lap around Germany’s 20.8km Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit – a Pagani Zonda- and Ferrari Enzo-bettering 7min22sec – the street-legal (in some markets) 151kW 1.0-litre three-cylinder Formula Ford racer also boasts benchmark fuel consumption of 2.4L/100km.

The efficient racer’s appearance at Go Further is expected to accompany announcements from the Blue Oval about the Ford Mustang’s return to local shores, the new Ford Australia-developed Ranger-based SUV and a teaser of the 2014 Falcon.

To be sold as a global vehicle under the company’s One Ford strategy, the new Mustang – expected to debut next year at either the Detroit or New York auto shows – will join the local line-up alongside the next-generation Ford Mondeo (pictured below) due in early 2014.

Ford is in the early stages of preparing to become an import-only business by 2016 when local production of the Falcon and Territory is planned to cease.

Ford says by the end of 2013, almost 80 per cent of its global nameplates will feature EcoBoost technology, including the currently available Focus ST, Mondeo, Falcon, and Kuga in Australia. The range will be further bolstered when the new Fiesta and EcoSport SUV arrive later this year.

CarAdvice will bring you all the latest news and developments from Ford’s Go Further event as it unfolds tomorrow.
