Metso Will Rebuild The PM 1 Cartonboard Machine at Obeikan Paper Industries' Riyadh Mill

Metso will rebuild the PM 1 cartonboard machine at the Riyadh mill of Obeikan Paper Industries in Saudi Arabia, a subsidiary of Obeikan Industrial Investment Group, as part of a contract.

According to Metso, the new production line will be fully operational in the middle of 2013 and the rebuild aims at improving end product quality, increasing capacity and cutting down production costs.

Obeikan Paper Industries general manager Mohammed Al-Mowkley commenting on the rebuild said, "This investment is aligned with Obeikan strategy to keep the mill up-to-date in technology in order to keep feet within the competitive environment of paper industries."

The PM 1 is 3.4-m-wide and produces white lined chipboard in the basis weight range of 180-450g/m2 at the design speed of 600m/min.

Its current annual production capacity, which is 170,000t will be 220,000t after the rebuild.

Metso's delivery will consist of a rebuild of the press section with a new SymBelt shoe press and also a new curtain coating station with a one-sided gas-heated air dryer.

The company will also take care of installation supervision, commissioning and start-up of the rebuilt machine.
