Exports of Iron and Steel Scrap From The US Increased by 26.33%

According to the statistics released by the US International Trade Commission (US ITC), in August this year exports of iron and steel scrap from the US amounted to 1.58 million mt, increasing by 26.33 percent from July, but down 7.44 percent compared to August 2013. The value of these exports increased by 24.39 percent compared to July and decreased by 2.54 percent year on year, amounting to $645.22 million.

Meanwhile, in the January-August period of this year, exports of iron and steel scrap from the US totaled 10.42 million mt, decreasing by 18.81 percent year on year.

In August, Turkey was the leading scrap export destination of the US, importing 321,302 mt, increasing by 6.23 percent compared to July and indicating a 40.19 percent decline year on year. Turkey was followed by South Korea and Taiwan, which respectively received 277,172 mt and 200,802 mt of scrap from the US in the given month. Meanwhile, Turkey was also the leading scrap export destination of the US in the first eight months, receiving 2.4 million mt, down 33.18 percent year on year.
