KCA Warned All Pakistani Textile Exporters to Comply with European Union Measures

The Karachi Cotton Association (KCA) has warned all Pakistani textile exporters to comply with European Union measures regarding exporting goods in wooden pallets, lest it impose a ban on exports.

“In a statement, KCA urged all textile exporters to comply with International Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (ISPM-15) to avoid imposition of a ban on import from Pakistan to European Union,” Business Recorder reported.

On basis of a communiqué received from the ministry of textile indsutry, KCA said that under an EU policy, textile goods packed in wooden pallets or any wood material should not be exported to any of its member states without fumigation with methyl bromide.

The trade body added that the said fumigation needs to be carried out by a registered fumigator of the Plant Protection Department.

The ministry of textile industry issued this specific warning as some Pakistani textile firms have used wooden pallets with harmful organism carrying textile products to member states of EU.

An EU agency reminded Pakistan that it is a signatory to International Plant Protection Organisation and IPPC Portal.

Under this measure, wooden packing material is not only required to be fumigated with methyl bromide but also has to be certified by a National Plant Protection Organisation.

The EU agency warned that a ban may be imposed on imports from Pakistan if the international agreement signed by it is ignored or violated. (AR)
