US Coal Production Totaled About 19.5 Million St in The Week Ended December 21

US coal production totaled about 19.5 million st in the week ended December 21, 3.1% above the previous week and 5.5% above that of the corresponding week of 2012, the Energy Information Administration said Monday.

EIA, which bases its estimates on railcar loading data, said production east of the Mississippi River totaled 8.2 million st in the week ended December 21, while output west of the Mississippi totaled about 11.3 million st.

US year-to-date coal production totaled 976.6 million st, 1.8% below the comparable period of 2012, the agency said.

EIA's coal production data is typically issued on Thursdays, but was delayed because of the Christmas holiday. The agency said production data for the week ended Saturday will be issued on January 6 because of the New Year's holiday.
