Fluon ETFE fluoropolymer film and LUMIFLON fluoroethylene vinyl ether (FEVE) from AGC Chemicals Americas Inc. are ideal for architectural applications. Fluon ETFE film has been used in some of the world’s most creative architectural designs because it allows for lightweight, moveable shell structures, brilliant illumination, energy efficiency, climate control and sunlight transmission. LUMIFLON FEVE resins have been used to make corrosion-resistant paints and coatings for building exteriors for more than 30 years.

ETFE film is made of a thermoplastic fluoropolymer, so it is transparent but much lighter weight than glass. It also features non-stick, insulation and anti-fouling properties, as well as resistance to heat, chemicals and weather.

ETFE film provides exceptional weatherability, allowing it to withstand temperatures over 200 °C. High tensile elongation (200 – 510) and tear strength mean that ETFE will not easily rip or scratch over time. Light transmission is higher than 90%, allowing more penetration of sunlight than ordinary glass, which is in the 80% range. ETFE film can also be used for electronics, solar cells, wallpaper and greenhouses.

AGC’s Fluon ETFE film was used in Singapore’s National Stadium, Kazakhstan’s Khan Shatyr Entertainment Center, Russia’s Fisht Stadium in Sochi for the 2014 winter games, Munich’s Allianz Arena and Brazil’s Itaipava Arena Pernambuco where the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil matches were held.

They also protect metal and concrete structures from corrosion. When used on buildings, bridges, aircraft, automobiles, water towers and solar panels, LUMIFLON-based topcoats do not degrade from UV light, wind, rain or corrosion.

LUMIFLON FEVE is the first solvent-soluble fluoropolymer resin for coatings that can be cured at room temperature or at elevated temperatures, making them suitable for both field and factory application. LUMIFLON-based coatings can be formulated to last 30 years or more, depending on the substrate and environment. A transparent fluororesin, LUMIFLON can be used to make both clear and pigmented coatings in more than 230 colors in high-gloss to flat finishes.
