High Speed Internet via LED Ceiling Lamps

Are there too many devices and endpoints clogging up your wireless network? Forget about radio waves, light waves may be the best way to transmit data.  And what's more, this new internet communication tool may be just around the corner.

In the early time of this year, the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute HHI claims to have set a new milestone in data transmission over LED light, reaching data throughput rates of up to 3 Gbit per second in lab experiments. This takes the technology one step closer to being available 'off the shelf' with claims that data rates up to 800 Mbit per second were reached by optical WLAN under lab conditions.

Furthermore, the new technical components are developed as modules which makes them suitable for customized integration in technology developments such as Car-to-X communication. AND the visible light communication also has a broad array of other possible applications ranging from areas like hospital operating theatres where safety is at a premium to places like trade shows and factory halls where radio communication is problematic. This new development represents a major step forward towards optical high-speed WLAN.
