Treofan Americas to Increase Capacity by 50% with New BOPP Line in Mexico

Specialty biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) films manufacturer Treofan is investing around $45m in a new orientation line at its Americas facility in Zacapu, Mexico.

The five-layer and 10.4m orientation line will help to enhance the production by 50% at the facility or increasing the capacity by 30,000 tons per year.

Treofa has invested around $100m in two lines, including 8.5m and 8.2m since last 20 years to expand the business.

Treofan develops and produces BOPP films for packaging, label, tobacco and technical applications.

Its packaging films are used by the major brands in the consumer goods industry across the globe, while label films are used in inmould, wrap around and self-adhesive label applications.

The firm also produces BOPP films for tobacco packaging, as well as a broad range of standard and high temperature grade capacitor fims.

Treofan Americas CEO Jon Knight said: "The additional asset represents the next phase of the Group's reinvestment strategy which was initiated in 2014 at our facility in Neunkirchen, Germany.

"The advanced capacity and capabilities will enable us to continue to grow with our valued customers in our key markets."

Treofan Americas COO Allan Crighton said: "We have been working in close cooperation with Bru¨ckner to design a line capable of producing our current and future specialty BOPP film products at more than ten meters wide and at speeds of up to 600 meters per minute building on the experience gained with the 8.2m five layer Bru¨ckner line which has now been running for almost ten years."
