Taiwan Drone Regulations Pending Parliament Passed

The Taiwan government has passed draft amendments to the Civil Aviation Act to regulate drones, pending parliamentary approval. Local governments will be responsible for regulating drones up to 15kg and those above the weight level will be governed by the Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA).

For personal (mostly for recreation and sports) and commercial-use drones of over 15kg, users must obtain operating licenses from CAA and make third-party liability insurance, tentaively set at NT$3 million (US$91,500).

Drones of any weight must only be operated in daytime at a maximum height of 400 feet above ground. But commercial drones can apply for restriction exemption from CAA or local governments. A user must not operate two or more drones simultaneously and drones are not allowed to fly over crowds of people.
