DBL Group Is Set to Establish Textiles and Garment Factory

DBL Group, Bangladesh-based diversified and integrated knit garments manufacturing & composite industry with a strong backward linkage, is set to establish textiles and garment factory at a cost of 765 million Birr in Mekele town, northern part of Ethiopia, Ethiopian news agency reported.

The DBL Group has signed agreement with the Mekele town administration and has received 68 hectares land for the construction of the factory.

DBL Group chairperson, Abdul Wahed, said the DBL Group has decided to invest in Ethiopia because of the business and investment opportunities in the country. The construction of the factory will start within two months and production will commence after nine months.

The textiles and garment factory is expected to create jobs for nearly 3,000 people, he added.

The company has plans to undertake additional investments within the next two years.

The Mayor of Mekele, Tewelde-Birhan Tesfalem said, the textiles and garment factory would contribute in Ethiopia’s efforts to develop the manufacturing sector, and would also benefit farmers who can supply raw material for the industry.

Launched in 1991, the DBL Group currently has facilities for spinning, fabric knitting, dyeing and finishing, garmenting, washing, packaging and printing. The company is into producing composite knit garments and textiles, and employs about 15,700 people in Bangladesh. (GK)
