ARM Has Launched a New Power-Optimised Dual-Core Hard Macro Implementation

The processor can be used in mobile and tablets as well as single board computers.

ARM has launched a new power-optimised dual-core hard macro implementation of the ARM Cortex-A15 processor for smartphones and mobile devices.

The processor is said to offer better power efficiency and deliver about 10,000DMIPS within a constrained mobile power limit.

The A15 processor combines the ARM Cortex processor IP, Artisan physical IP, CoreLink systems IP with ARM's integration capabilities.

The dual-core hard macro has been built with ARM Artisan 9-track libraries and ARM POP Technology for the Cortex-A15 on TSMC's 28nm HPM process.

According to the company, the processor features integrated NEON SIMD technology and a virtual floating point engine with a 1MB level 2 cache that improves performance.

The Cortex-A15 processor is capable of delivering double the performance compared to the smartphones based on the Cortex-A9 processor, the company said.

ARM Cortex-A15 can be used to design big.LITTLE processing systems by pairing with the dual- or quad-core Cortex-A7 processor and can also be used in mobile applications, as well as devices like the single board computers.
