Australian MPs Have Been Debating Legislation

In what's been a busy Parliamentary week, Australian MPs have been debating legislation which would prohibit the import of timber that's been illegally logged and impose significant fines on anyone bringing it in. Timber products from illegal operations in Indonesia and Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands, for example, end up in Australian homes - often without any labelling to indicate its origins. The Bill passed late yesterday - with support of the Greens - but the Opposition has concerns it may harm Australia's relationship with its neighbours. Source: radioaustralia
