Canadian Food Manufacturer Launches Fondue Bouillons in Eco-Friendly Package

Canadian food manufacturer Lassonde Specialties will launch its ‘Canton’ brand fondue bouillons, traditional ‘canned classics’ in new eco-friendly carton packs provided by SIG Combibloc.

The ready-to-serve bouillons in combiblocStandard 1,100ml will be offered in Beef/Onion, Original, Oriental Delight, Red Wine and Thai varieties. The carton packs feature a V perforation to make them easy to open.

SIG Combibloc North America head of marketing and business development Tim Kirchen said foods in convenient portion sizes, in packaging made from eco-friendly materials derived from renewable resources are in demand.

"This is where aseptic carton packs for foods and beverages come into play - carton packs tick all those boxes. Lassonde's decision to go for the carton pack is thus representative of the packaging trend in North America, which is moving from food metal cans to carton packs," Kirchen said.

SIG's 'greener' packaging form preserves the flavor and quality of the bouillons and retains their quality for a long time.

The carton packs from SIG carry the label of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). The label verifies that only wood fibers that originated from responsibly managed forests were used to manufacture the unprocessed cardboard from which the carton packs are made.

Carton packs are made up to 75% from wood, a renewable resource, and serve as environmentally friendly packaging solutions for long-life foods. They stack well, and secondary packaging can be kept to a minimum, SIG said.
