CFIA Has Asked The Public Not to Consume The Sliced White Mushrooms

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued a health alert, asking the public not to consume the Sliced White Mushrooms produced by Highline Mushrooms as they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The products affected by this alert are Sliced White Mushrooms, sold in 227 g (8 oz) containers bearing lot code L410805 followed by a 4-digit time code (e.g., L4108051420) and a best before date of 12 August 2015.

These products have been distributed in Ontario and may have been distributed in other provinces as well. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.

Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled. Consumption of food contaminated with these bacteria may cause listeriosis, a foodborne illness.

Listeriosis can lead to high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea. Pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk.

Highline Mushrooms, based in Leamington, Ontario, is voluntarily recalling the affected products from the marketplace, while the CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
