According to statistics released by Japan's Ministry of Finance, in first half of 2013 Japan's scrap exports amounted to 4.76 million mt, increasing 16.8 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.
Meanwhile, Japan's ferrous scrap exports totaled 668,670 metric tons in June this year, falling by 13.8 percent month on month and down 7.9 percent compared to June 2012.
In the first half of this year, Japanese scrap exports to South Korea totaled 2.8 million metric tons, up 16.7 percent over the first half of 2012, while exports to China amounted to 1.4 million metric tons, decreasing by 2.3 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. Vietnam imported 254,100 mt of steel scrap from Japan in the first half, more than double compared to the same period of 2012.
