Today at CES, Neatgear introduced two connected-home products: the Universal Dual Band WiFi Range Extender, which helps rid your house of dead spots where there is no wireless signal, and the VueZone Add-On Night Vision Camera (VZCN2060). What sets them apart from other smart-home devices is that they are both completely wireless—not even a power cable.
The Netgear Universal Dual Band WiFi Range Extender, Wall-plug Edition (WN3500RP) helps extend your home's Wi-Fi to those areas where the signal is poor; according to Netgear, the top three dead spots in a home are the garage, the backyard and the bedroom. The Dual Band WiFi Range Extender simply plugs into a wall socket to get its power, and with a push of a button, connects to your network. You don't even need to run Ethernet cable around your house.
It then amplifies the existing Wi-Fi signal to cover the areas previously without coverage. It can also be directly connected to speakers for music streaming, using Apple's AirPlay. The Universal Dual Band WiFi Range Extender is available now for $100.
Netgear's VueZone line of home monitoring cameras run on ultra-low power, so they last up to six months on the type of battery typically found in digital cameras. With no network or power cable needed, you can place the VueZone cameras anywhere you want them. Once connected, you can monitor the video from a smart phone, tablet, PC, or Mac.
To boost the VueZone line, Netgear today announced the VueZone Add-On Night Vision Camera (VZCN2060). As the name implies, it can record in very dim light using infrared technology. It's available now for $130.
