Anheuser-Busch to Acquire Devils Backbone Brewing

Anheuser-Busch has entered into an agreement to acquire Virginia-based craft brewery Devils Backbone Brewing for an undisclosed sum.

Devils Backbone will join Anheuser-Busch's craft breweries portfolio within the company's business unit named The High End which comprises of several unique craft and import brands.

The High End includes brands such as Stella Artois and Shock Top, along with craft breweries Goose Island, Blue Point, 10 Barrel, Elysian, Golden Road, Virtue Cider, Four Peaks and Breckenridge Brewery.

Devils Backbone Brewing Company co-founder and CEO Steve Crandall said: "While we are joining a creative group of craft breweries in the division, Devils Backbone will retain a high level of autonomy and continue its own authentic DNA within The High End framework.

"The existing management team plans to stay on board for many years, while continuing to innovate and bring locally crafted Virginia beer to the nation."

Founded in 2008, Devils Backbone Brewing Company was set up with its first brewpub Basecamp in Virginia. Then, founders Steve and Heidi Crandall decided to open Outpost facility, in Lexington, Virginia.

Outpost produced almost 45,000 barrels in its first three years. Currently, the Outpost Brewery & Taproom in Lexington functions primarily as a production brewery while the Basecamp Brewpub & Meadows in Roseland, serves as a visitor destination.

Anheuser-Busch is the US unit of Anheuser-Busch InBev and operates 17 local breweries, 21 distributorships and 23 agricultural and packaging facilities across the country.
